After a very easy flight (with amazing movie options!) we arrived in Israel at around 1pm. We collected our luggage, changed our money, and then headed out to meet our tour guide, Zvi and our guard, Sherry.
We got on the bus and headed to our first hotel in Tel Aviv: the Sea Net Hotel! The students were so excited on our drive from the airport absorbing all of the scenery and asking Zvi various questions about the culture and history.
Once we arrived, we got a little bit of time to rest and then walked to the beach of Tel Aviv to join together in Shehechiyanu. As we gathered on the beach watching the sun set over the Mediterranean, we joined together welcoming Shabbat. We talked about our personal lineage and our mythic attachment to Israel. We sang the familiar melodies of V'shamru and other Shabbat songs as the sky turned dark.
After a great Shabbat dinner at the hotel, we are all in bed getting ready for a big day tomorrow. We can't wait to be better rested as we explore Tel Aviv tomorrow!
